Director, Operations & Studies (Minerals & Metals) - Vancouver

We’re looking for a progressive-thinking and innovative Director, Operations & Studies to join the Minerals & Metals leadership team in Vancouver. This role reports directly to the Vice President, Western Canada and is deeply involved in setting direction, growth planning, leading strategic initiatives, and ensuring that we’re working effectively to achieve our mission and meet financial goals.

About the role

  • Complete the business planning cycle, including budgets, monthly re-forecasting, and operational reviews to identify profitability improvements.
  • Strengthen operational infrastructure by building and leading a study management office; ensure studies are properly resourced and delivered on time and on budget.
  • Lead regular reviews of study timelines, budgets, and resources, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Partner with the Vice President to drive strategic initiatives and support overall strategic planning.
  • Work cross-functionally to analyze business challenges, identify value drivers, and develop actionable solutions that improve performance.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding their business needs and objectives.
  • Set, monitor, and adjust utilization (billable) targets; ensure team members are allocated appropriately to meet cost and performance goals.
  • Foster a strong Ausenco culture in the Vancouver office while inspiring and coaching team members to support their growth, engagement, and optimal performance.
  • Demonstrate leadership in promoting and improving the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees and host communities.

About You

You are a proven strategic business partner looking for your next challenge and can offer the following skills and experience: 

  • 18+ years’ progressive experience within a high-growth, dynamic organization, preferably in engineering, consulting or mining
  • Proven track record of successfully running and growing Operational business lines
  • Strong ability to interpret and analyze financial reports and budgets and use data and information to inform recommendations, decisions and outcomes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to create and deliver persuasive presentations
  • Willingness to communicate and share a sense of direction and coach and mentor others to build business capability for the future
  • Good commercial sense and experience expanding and developing business with new and existing clients
  • Ability to move studies, projects and initiatives forward by working through complexity and uncertainty to drive projects to completion
  • An entrepreneurial, influential, and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will stretch the organization
  • Comfort with ambiguity and complexity and an ability to both delve into details and engage meaningfully on overall strategy
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business
