From 21 offices in 9 countries, with projects in over 80 locations worldwide, we create sustainable outcomes for our people, clients and communities.

The Environmental Manager is responsible for leading environmental compliance and implementation of the Project Sustainability Management Plan (SMP) during construction and early works activities. The role provides environmental leadership across project execution, ensuring that environmental commitments, permit conditions, regulatory requirements, and sustainability objectives are effectively integrated into construction planning, contractor management, and field activities.

Reporting as part of the Project execution team, the Environmental Manager oversees environmental management systems, monitoring programs, contractor compliance, environmental risk management, and incident response activities. This is a site-based role and acts as the primary environmental interface between the Project team, contractors, regulators, Indigenous groups, and stakeholders, while supporting alignment between engineering, construction, permitting, and operational readiness activities.

About the role:

  • Lead implementation of the Sustainability Management Plan (SMP) and associated environmental management plans during construction activities.
  • Ensure Project compliance with environmental permits, approval conditions, regulatory commitments, IFC Performance Standards and applicable environmental legislation.
  • Provide environmental leadership and direction to Sustainability / Environmental coordinators and technicians, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Oversee contractor environmental performance, including inspections, audits, corrective actions, and compliance tracking.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring and reporting programs, including water quality, erosion and sediment control, wildlife management, waste management, and reclamation activities.
  • Support integration of environmental requirements into engineering design changes, construction planning, work packages, and field execution activities.
  • Identify and manage environmental risks associated with construction activities and support implementation of mitigation measures.
  • Lead environmental incident response, investigation, reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action management.
  • Participate in contractor prequalification reviews, technical bid evaluations, and environmental performance assessments.
  • Oversee environmental performance tracking systems and sustainability dashboards, including development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to compliance, monitoring, incidents, inspections, corrective actions, and sustainability objectives.
  • Prepare environmental compliance reports, performance summaries, and regulatory reporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with regulators, clients, and stakeholders regarding environmental compliance and Project activities.
  • Support development and continuous improvement of environmental procedures, management systems, and field controls.
  • Promote environmental awareness and compliance culture across the Project workforce.

About you:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Professional designation (e.g., P.Ag., P.Geo., P.Eng., RPBio., EP, CPESC) considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of environmental management experience supporting mining, construction, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing environmental management plans during construction and/or EPCM project execution.
  • Strong understanding of environmental permitting, compliance management, environmental monitoring, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Experience managing environmental teams, contractors, and multidisciplinary project interfaces in complex field environments.
  • Working knowledge of erosion and sediment control, water management, mine waste management, reclamation, and environmental inspection programs.
  • Experience supporting environmental audits, incident investigations, and regulatory inspections.
  • Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced site-based environments and support field-based operational decision-making.
  • Willingness to work on a rotation schedule.
