Intermediate Mechanical Engineer – Tucson or Denver

Our team in the US is growing. We are currently recruiting for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our Minerals & Metals Business line in the Tucson or Denver office reporting to our Lead Mechanical Engineer. In this role, you will play a key role in critical project phases, from Study Phase Engineering and Detailed Engineering to Construction. Bring your experience and gain additional experience across a variety of Mining commodities with a large variety of clients. 

This is a full-time position with possible work from home options as per our global telework policy and may require at least three (3) days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned to the Tucson office or Denver office.  Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with function or project leadership.

About the Role

  • Prepare technical specifications, equipment lists, material lists, and drawing files.
  • Develop plans, designs, calculations, and cost estimates for engineering studies and assignments.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure effective delivery of multidiscipline engineering design.
  • Create physical layouts of plant and equipment, including diagrams and schematics.
  • Review and provide feedback on technical documents submitted by vendors.
  • Deliver mechanical engineering designs that meet project timelines and standards.
  • Conduct hydraulic, piping, and tank sizing calculations, along with material selections.
  • Guide designers in preparing layouts and assist the drafting division with project design drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and relevant client engineering standards.
  • Adhere to and promote the Ausenco North America corporate Safety In Design culture
  • Understand project requirements related to scope, execution strategy, cost, and schedule.
  • Prepare a list of engineering deliverables and manage time-based functions for budget control.
  • Support site visits to gather information and data for projects.
  • Lead equipment identification and selection, including sizing and technical specifications.
  • Oversee piping system design activities, including hydraulic analysis and P&ID development.
  • Manage and review engineering work packages to ensure adherence to budgets and schedules.

About You:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is essential.
  • PE registration in Arizona or Colorado is preferred.
  • 8 years of experience in preparing tender packages, requisitions, specifications, bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
  • Prior experience with an engineering consulting firm, equipment vendors, or mining companies on mining and mineral processing projects is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of CAD, SmartPlant, 3D software, and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and MS Project) is required.
  • Familiarity with ASME codes is important for compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, as we value clear and effective communication.

  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, along with the ability to meet tight deadlines, are essential.
  • The ability to manage and motivate individuals to achieve quality, cost, and schedule objectives is key.
  • A strong deliverable focus and the ability to plan your work effectively are important for success.
  • A good understanding of inter-discipline dependencies related to mechanical engineering is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with procurement, contracting, and commissioning methodologies is advantageous.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable codes and standards for the project is necessary.
  • Site experience in a technical role is preferred, adding practical insight to your work.
