Our team in Brazil is growing, we are currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Engineer, Senior to join our Consultanting  Business line in the in Belo Horizonte - MG office.

About the role: 

  • Technical Leadership & Governance: Act as technical lead for geotechnical scopes across waste dumps, TSFs, and dams—from concept to closure. Lead development and sign‑off of geotechnical design criteria, slope design bases, OMS manuals, surveillance/monitoring plans, and risk registers. Oversee/perform advanced analyses: slope stability (2D/3D), seepage–deformation coupling, liquefaction triggering, static/dynamic response, consolidation/settlement, dam breach and inundation. Chair/drive formal risk reviews (bow‑tie, FMEA, HAZID/HAZOP where relevant) and ALARP demonstrations. Ensure compliance with corporate and international standards (e.g., GISTM, ICOLD/ANCOLD, CDA, ABNT NBR), site permits, and audit actions. Provide technical mentoring, checking, and independent reviews for junior and intermediate engineers. Report work to the E&E BR Geotechnical Lead.
  • Tailings & Waste Facility Stewardship: Lead dam safety reviews, design reviews, and readiness assessments; interface with EOR/IOR and external reviewers. Define monitoring networks and trigger action response plans (TARPs); interpret instrumentation and remote sensing (piezometers, inclinometers, prisms, radar, satellite InSAR).
    Guide deposition planning, water balance interactions, and beach/pond management with hydrology/hydrogeology.
    Oversee construction QA/QC and change management on embankments, buttresses, drainage, liners, and closure covers. Support Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), consequence classification, breach studies, and emergency drills.
  • Project Management: Own project scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, communications, risk, procurement, and stakeholder management. Build WBS, baseline schedules, cost estimates, and risk registers; manage changes through formal change control. Lead multi‑disciplinary coordination (geotech, hydro, civil, survey, ops, environmental, community) of specific projects.  Prepare proposals, manage invoicing, cash flow, and margin protection. Report project performance (EV, SPI/CPI), lead client progress meetings, and close out with lessons learned.
  • Stakeholder & Regulatory Interface: Act as primary technical contact for clients, operations, regulators, and third‑party reviewers. Prepare and defend technical positions in reviews, audits, and permitting. Communicate complex geotechnical risks clearly to non‑specialists; support risk-based decision making.
  • People, Safety & Culture: Model safety leadership and field presence; ensure compliance with mine HSE requirements (e.g., NR‑22, working at heights NR‑35, confined spaces NR‑33 as applicable). Coach and develop team capabilities; assign work, set quality expectations, and perform technical checks/approvals.

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Approximately 10 years of experience in the geotechnical field;
  • CREA registration in Brazil and ability to act as responsible technical professional
  • Soil and rock mechanics, including behavior of mine wastes.
  • Slope stability (2D/3D limit equilibrium and FEM/LEM hybrid), seepage (steady/transient), consolidation, and deformation analyses.
  • Seismic & dynamic: PSHA/DSHA inputs, cyclic softening, residual strength selection.
  • Tailings-specific: critical state concepts, beach slope prediction, hydraulic deposition, desaturation/drainage systems, filters/transition design, erosion controls.
  • Dam breach & inundation modelling; consequence classification and EAP integration.
  • Material characterization and data interpretation (index/compaction, triaxial/ DSS/CRS, CPTu/SCPTu, vane, lab QA/QC).
  • Instrumentation & surveillance: network design, data QA, trend/statistical analysis, triggers and TARPs.
  • Construction methods and QC/QA for embankments, liners, drains, buttresses, and closure/rehabilitation earthworks.
  • Numerical & stability: GeoStudio (Slope/W, Seep/W, Sigma/W), Rocscience (Slide2/Slide3, RS2/RS3).
  • CAD/BIM & GIS: AutoCAD/Civil 3D, ArcGIS/QGIS.
  • Data & reporting: Excel (advanced), Power BI; Python/R for data cleaning, interpretation, and automation.
  • PM & collaboration: MS Project or Primavera P6, cost control tools, Aconex/Asite for document control; M365 for comms.
  • Leadership skill.
  • Proficient English Level.
