Intermediate Structural Designer – Tucson or Denver

Our team in the US is growing. We are currently recruiting for an Intermediate Structural Designer to join our Minerals and Metals Business line in the Tucson or Denver office. In this role, you will plan, develop, and quality check civil design work, produce 3D models, drawings and documentation for a project, and take-off quantities for estimating. You will also play a key role in critical project phases, from Study Phase Engineering to Detailed Engineering and Construction. You will bring your experience and gain additional experience across a variety of Mining commodities with a large variety of clients.

 

This is a full-time position with possible work from home options as per our global telework policy and may require at least three (3) days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned to the Tucson office

Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with function or project leadership.

About the Role

 

  • Work within a multidisciplinary project team of designers and ensure interdisciplinary co-ordination when developing the models
  • Develop structural models in a 3D environment
  • Development of mechanical layouts in 2D and 3D environments
  • Prepare structural layout detail designs and drawings in line with project design requirements for various areas of a copper concentrator facility (specifically tailings thickener and filtration plants)
  • Assistance with forecasting and monitoring of budgeted hours
  • Comply with the Ausenco North America Structural and Civil project drafting standards
  • Preparation of drawings according to project design criteria
  • Application of project defined regulations, codes, and standards
  • Facilitation of project model reviews, and follow up of action items (tags)
  • Compliance with all Ausenco corporate policies and procedures by adopting Ausenco Quality Assurance and Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures and requirements.

 

About You

  • A Diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology (civil, structural, or architectural) from a recognized college is essential.
  • 2-5 years of experience in structural steel and concrete modelling, design, and drafting is required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D drafting and Smart Plant 3D modelling or other 3D modelling software is a must.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills are necessary to convey technical information effectively.
  • Understanding of industry regulatory codes and standards is important for compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of multi-functional project teams is essential.
  • Site experience and shop detailing are considered assets.
  • Experience in civil, earthwork, or architectural design will be beneficial.
  • Experience in 2D design and 3D structural modeling with AutoDesk® software, including AutoCAD® and Civil 3D®. Familiarity with Bentley® products is a plus.
  • Experience with large concrete and steel structures is required, particularly in the heavy industrial industry.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision and mentor junior designers is crucial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues effectively are necessary.
