Join our team and be part of an exciting execution-phase project in the North American mining industry. You'll play a key role in critical project phases, from Basic Engineering and Detailed Engineering to Construction, gaining hands-on experience across a variety of commodities. We are currently seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Site Project Director to be based in either Toronto or the Burlington office. If you’re the right person for the job, we are open to discussing you being located in another office location.

The candidate should (ideally) have experience on remote, northern Canada projects with significant logistical challenges as well as, experience with rail and port infrastructure (in addition to the open pit mining and mineral processing experience).

About the role

•Understand accountabilities and demonstrate commitment to promoting and improving the health, safety and wellbeing of Ausenco's workforce and host communities.

•Understand accountabilities and demonstrate commitment to environmental and community management goals.

•Manage health and safety risks through design, approval, procurement, construction and commissioning.

•Responsible for ensuring Incidents, including near misses, are reported, investigated and analyzed. Corrective and preventive actions are taken and learnings shared.

•Responsible for maintaining health and safe working practices.

•Participate in the development and implementation of the health and safety management system.

•Management of environmental risks is an integral part of all projects through design, approval, procurement, construction and commissioning.

•Discovers client operational problems and positions Ausenco as a total solutions provider.

•Participates in frequent and extensive client meetings to improve client relations and satisfaction.

•Consistent with the Ausenco Standard, ensures that the project goals and objectives are achieved within the agreed timeframe and guidelines established by the relevant stakeholders and management committees.

•Prepares the communications plan and related project status reports to key stakeholders and governance bodies (as appropriate) to provide project updates on activities and deliverables, as well as risks and mitigation strategies.

•Defines and manages overall project risk identification and mitigation process through interaction with project constituents and stakeholders.

•Identifies on a timely basis all project barriers and identifies strategies and approaches to overcome these barriers.

•Defines and implements appropriate change management strategies and plans to ensure that change management concerns are addressed during and after project implementation, as well as to ensure that the project impact is sustainable and supported by the business process owners.

•Applies industry standard project management process and approaches to project activities to ensure a consistent approach to project completion.

•Travels to engineering and client offices and the project site on a frequent basis to coordinate and manage project activities.

•Liaises with department managers and leaders to discuss and advise on requirements; and as such, requires effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, officials and associates, for the purpose of discussing problems, explaining decisions & solutions and other project criteria.

•Complies with relevant business management system (or quality) policies and procedures.

•Defines and determines role of project management in the project, including specific roles and responsibilities for each project member.

•Provides high-level project management leadership and oversees the project plan, deliverables, dependencies and outcomes for the project.

•Develops balanced and productive project teams by providing leadership and guidance to the project members under your management and coordinating and fostering team spirit and approach based on Ausenco core values and behaviors.

•Identifies and manages overall project dependencies and ensure project deliverables stay on-time, on-target and on-budget.

•Drives on time invoicing and manages cash collection.

•Defines project scope and implements project plans in accordance with the client’s needs from contract scoping through project start up, execution and completion.

•Selects, manages and orients the senior members (managers) of the project team such that the client’s financial and schedule goals are met.

•Obtains approvals from key client stakeholders when project is completed and closes the project.

•Continually seeks opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.

•Builds a knowledge base of each client's business, organization and objectives.

About you

•Degree in business administration (HBA), construction management and/or applied science / engineering (BASc/BEng).

•Member of Project Management Institute (PMI) or Certification being considered by PMI.

•20+ years’ proven project management and business development experience with an EPC/EPCM firm or other large organization; construction experience is advantageous.

•Understanding of international practices and procedures for delivering projects in foreign environments.

•Successful completion of several large, EPCM projects, valued at USD 1.0 billion or more delivered on time, on spec and on budget.

•High standards and expectations for project execution with respect to finance, quality, innovation, health, safety, environment and community.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•The ability to create and share a sense of direction, give clear direction to individuals and teams and willingness to coach and mentor others to build business capability for the future.

•A good commercial sense and experience expanding and developing business with new and existing clients.

•Strong problem solving and organization skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
