We’re looking for a progressive-thinking and innovative Director, Technical Services to join the Minerals & Metals leadership team in Vancouver. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Western Canada, this role plays a critical part in shaping technical strategy, driving growth, and leading a high-performing team of Managers, Technical Consultants and Process Engineers.
The Director, Technical Services will be deeply involved in setting direction, advancing strategic initiatives, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, client-focused technical solutions—while consistently achieving financial and operational objectives.
About the role
The scope of this role encompasses leadership across the following key areas.
People Leadership
- Lead and grow a regional team of Process Engineers, creating a client-focused and high-performance environment focused on quality, accountability, project delivery, economics and continuous improvement.
- Connect team members with global subject matter experts to strengthen technical depth and support ongoing development.
- Promote a culture of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and mentorship to continuously elevate team capability.
- Support other disciplines including Study Management, Estimation, and Layout to recognize how each group of specialists come together to create a coherent whole which ultimately serves to advance the client’s business.
Business Leadership
- Drive the group’s financial performance, P&L accountability, aligning resources and priorities to meet regional targets while identifying opportunities to improve margins and efficiency.
- Collaborate across offices and disciplines to bring the best of the organization to each project, strengthening both capability and delivery.
- Actively support business development efforts—from early client engagement through conference attendance, industry networking, proposals, bids, and negotiations—ensuring technical solutions are practical, competitive, and compelling.
- Shape and execute market strategies that position the team strongly within key sectors and support sustainable growth.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner closely with clients to understand their challenges and uncover opportunities where technical expertise can unlock meaningful value.
- Build strong relationships with clients and industry partners, maintaining a clear understanding of market dynamics and emerging priorities.
Projects, Studies and Operational Excellence
- Champion innovative thinking by encouraging new ideas, technologies, and approaches that enhance project outcomes and differentiate our offering.
- Ensure all work is delivered with a strong focus on safety, technical integrity, and cost efficiency, applying best practices throughout.
- Oversight of a portfolio of Studies and Projects ranging from test work programs to Feasibility studies and FEED’s in terms of process engineering discipline.
- Responsible for Stage Gate review processes for process engineering discipline, Capex, Opex and Financial Modelling.
Technical Services
- Oversee the development and review of process engineering deliverables and standards, driving consistency, quality, and cost-effective design.
- Contribute hands-on technical insight across all project phases, from early studies through detailed engineering and commissioning.
- Champion the optimal business case for each project, providing guidance to a team of engineers to deliver solutions are fit for purpose and aligned with client needs.
- Drive innovation, adoption of new technologies and provide expert guidance on new and complex metallurgy and mineral processing.
- Support the Process Team in developing and presenting technical papers for conferences to further Ausenco’s reputation as a global leader in technical solution delivery
About You
You are a proven strategic business partner looking for your next challenge and can offer the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Process Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in process engineering, with a strong background in mining & metals or related industries.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams, ideally across multiple locations.
- Proven track record of delivering complex engineering projects and achieving financial and operational targets.
- Knowledge of industry regulations, codes, and standards in addition to regulatory compliance with NI 43-101, Jorc and SK-1300 reporting requirements.
- Deep understanding of project execution across all phases, including pilot plants, feasibility, detailed design, and commissioning.
- Deep understanding of:
- Mine development and operations
- Mineral processing
- Hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy
- Tailings management
- Infrastructure and utilities
- Decarbonization and sustainability initiative
- Ability to move studies, projects and initiatives forward by working through complexity and uncertainty to drive projects to completion
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at executive and client levels.
- An entrepreneurial, influential, and creative mindset that drives the development of innovative ideas, challenges the status quo, and promotes knowledge sharing across the organization.
- Comfort with ambiguity and complexity and an ability to both delve into details and engage meaningfully on overall strategy.
