We are currently seeking a Manager, Process Engineering to join our Mining & Metals team in Toronto. This is a 12-month maternity leave contract, with the potential to extend or transition into another opportunity within Ausenco. It’s a great chance to make a meaningful impact, build strong relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of our Toronto team.

This role will support our continued growth and success across a diverse portfolio of minerals and metals projects. Working across the full project lifecycle, from early-stage studies and feasibility through to detailed engineering and execution, you'll play a key role in shaping innovative, practical solutions for our clients while leading and developing a talented team of process engineering professionals.

We're looking for a collaborative, technically strong leader who brings a client-focused mindset, a passion for developing people, and a commitment to continuous improvement. This is an exciting opportunity to combine hands-on technical expertise with team leadership, client engagement, and business growth.

About the role

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Toronto Process Engineering team, fostering a collaborative environment focused on technical excellence, professional growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee process engineering activities across studies and projects, ensuring deliverables meet project objectives, client expectations, Ausenco standards, and industry best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual and feasibility studies through to detailed engineering and execution.
  • Review and approve key process engineering deliverables, including process simulations, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment sizing, and heat and material balances.
  • Champion innovative, fit-for-purpose and cost-effective design solutions that deliver value to clients while meeting project scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, understand their technical challenges, and contribute to identifying new business opportunities.
  • Support business development activities, including preparing proposals, developing work estimates, and contributing technical expertise to client discussions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, technical specialists, and process engineering colleagues across Ausenco's global network to share knowledge and deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Support resource planning, workload management, and the day-to-day operations of the Process Engineering team, ensuring project commitments and team development goals are met.
  • Contribute to the development of technical standards, systems, and best practices, including mentoring emerging professionals and supporting graduate development initiatives.
  • Participate in client meetings, occasional site visits, and industry events to strengthen relationships and represent Ausenco's technical capabilities.

About you

  • A degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, Mineral Processing Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in process engineering within the mining and metals industry, including engineering consulting, EPCM projects, or owner-side project development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and developing technical teams, with the ability to balance people leadership and hands-on technical involvement.
  • Strong technical expertise across mineral processing studies, plant design, and project execution, with a practical understanding of engineering deliverables and industry standards.
  • Experience in plant operations or industrial environments would be considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge conventional approaches and develop innovative, practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trusted relationships with clients, colleagues, and project stakeholders.
  • A commercial mindset, with experience supporting proposals, managing project priorities, and delivering quality work within agreed budgets and schedules.
  • A collaborative, proactive leadership style and a genuine interest in developing people and contributing to the continued growth of the team.
  • Professional engineering registration in Ontario (P.Eng.) or eligibility for registration would be an asset.
