We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead / Senior Designer to join our Newcastle office and lead our dynamic Design team. This is a rare chance to influence major projects, drive design excellence, and help shape the future success of our team and clients.

You bring extensive experience in multidisciplinary design drafting, strong leadership capability, and a collaborative approach to project delivery. You are passionate about mentoring others, fostering a high-performance culture, and delivering quality outcomes that make a real difference.

 

About the role 

  • Lead and manage the design team to ensure design deliverables are completed to the required quality, standards and project timeframes.
  • Coordinate and allocate design resources across multiple projects to support successful project delivery.
  • Review and oversee design deliverables, ensuring compliance with company, client and industry standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of design drafting best practices, processes and procedures.
  • Mentor, coach and develop designers to build capability and foster a high-performance and positive office culture.
  • Support recruitment activities and workforce planning to ensure projects are appropriately resourced, including collaboration across our APAC teams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with project teams, engineering leaders and clients.
  • Contribute to the cost-effective delivery of projects by identifying innovative and practical design solutions.
  • Champion health, safety and environmental practices, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

About you

  •  Significant experience in design drafting, with exposure across multiple engineering disciplines, specifically process, structural, mechanical and piping.
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing, mentoring and developing design teams.
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards, design processes and quality management systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate resources, manage competing priorities and deliver projects to schedule.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating design teams on major multidisciplinary projects is highly desirable.
  • Broad engineering knowledge and experience within consulting, construction, operations or project environments.
  • Advanced Diploma in Engineering or equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, sustainability and continuous improvement.
