Our Brazil Project Execution team is expanding to support a strong pipeline of EPC/EPCM projects within our Minerals & Metals business. We're seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Manager to lead HSE strategy, governance, and operational excellence across our project sites in Brazil while contributing to the successful delivery of both ongoing and future projects.

 

About the role

The HSE Manager will be responsible for providing leadership across all Health, Safety, and Environment functions within project execution environments. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with Brazilian regulations, implementing corporate HSE standards, driving a strong safety culture, and supporting project teams in achieving world-class HSE performance throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Leading HSE initiatives across project sites and ensuring alignment with Ausenco's regional and global HSE strategy.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable Brazilian health, safety, environmental, and occupational legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HSE Management Systems for projects executed in Brazil.
  • Defining and planning HSE strategic objectives for projects, ensuring integration with regional HSE goals and business priorities.
  • Developing and implementing action plans, programs, and standardized processes to strengthen the organization's safety, health, and environmental culture.
  • Establishing and managing Critical Risk Management programs and HSE standards applicable to project execution and operational activities.
  • Monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting safety performance data to identify critical risks, establish priorities, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinating and participating in internal and external HSE audits to ensure compliance, governance, and continuous improvement.
  • Providing technical and strategic HSE guidance to Project Managers, Construction Managers, and site leadership teams throughout all project phases.
  • Supporting pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities while ensuring effective risk management and safe execution practices.
  • Promoting the application of industry best practices and continuous improvement initiatives in Health, Safety, and Environment performance.
  • Driving contractor HSE management, engagement, and performance across complex project environments.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification or specialization in Occupational Health and Safety, with relevant Brazilian certifications and professional registrations.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience supporting major mining, metals, industrial, or infrastructure projects in Brazil.
  • At least 10 years of leadership experience in HSE management roles within EPC/EPCM project environments.
  • Proven experience implementing and managing HSE Management Systems across large-scale construction and project execution environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up phases of capital projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Brazilian HSE legislation, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards.
  • Hands-on experience applying methodologies such as Bow Tie, ICAM, ISO standards, Safety-Based Culture (SBC), and digital HSE technologies for construction environments.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Advanced English proficiency is preferred, with intermediate Spanish considered an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel and mobilize to project locations across Brazil on a roster or site-based work arrangement.
  • A proactive, collaborative, and results-driven approach to leadership and project delivery.
