Our team is growing in Canada, we are currently recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Layout Designer to join our Minerals and Metals Business line in our Burlington or Toronto Office, as we prepare for many exciting new execution and study projects.

About the role 

  • Prepare mechanical layouts: study level and execution level drawings in line with project requirements
  • Development of mechanical layouts in 2D layouts (Autocad).  3D layout an asset.
  • Produce layout relevant deliverables such as design criteria, design drawings and reports.
  • Deliver design drawings according to project-specific design criteria as well as the defined regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Maintain consistent design drafting standards across projects by communicating expectations and holding project members to account for standards.
  • Manage a team of layout designers against project schedule and budgeted hours.
  • Control and monitor layout budget hours and manpower loading and provide forecast.
  • Support proposal managers in providing input into the proposal and estimates.
  •  Facilitate and ensure interdisciplinary co-ordination when developing layouts or models.
  • Comply with all of Ausenco corporate policies and procedures by adopting Ausenco Quality Assurance and Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment policies, procedures and requirements.

About you 

  • Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma or equivalent.
  • 15 year’s relevant experience in Mechanical Layout and design drafting of Mineral Processing Plants within a large project, multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM environment.
  • Gold and Copper commodities experience.
  • Experience in layout design of mineral processing plants for studies and projects.
  • Understanding of major mineral processing equipment and interconnecting equipment and chutework.
  • Proficient with Autodesk products (Autocad, AdvanceSteel, Plant3D) 2d and 3d. Smartplant an asset.
  • Able to use vendor data, drawings and information to develop and verify the model.
  •  Experience in brownfield, greenfield & international projects.
  •  Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes relating to the design and systems for projects.
  •  Well-developed written and oral skills
  • Excellent communication skills, be detailed-oriented, a self-starter, organized, be able to work independently to produce drawings within a strict deadline schedule.
  • Able to work well, either as lead, part of a team or independently.
  • Willingness to travel between downtown Toronto & Burlington locations
  • Experience in Industrial projects is also an asset.
