Ausenco is a fast-growing company with big ideas. We redefine what’s possible in some of the world’s most complex projects and toughest environments. Delivering innovative, value-add consulting, project delivery, asset operations and maintenance solutions is what we do. From 21 offices in 9 countries, with projects in over 80 locations worldwide, we create sustainable outcomes for our people, clients and communities.

We are seeking an HSE Manager to join our team supporting the Rex Minerals Hillside Copper Project in South Australia, with candidates able to be based in Brisbane, Newcastle, Perth or Adelaide. The successful candidate will be required to work predominantly on site as part of a FIFO arrangement. The roster pattern is currently under review and will be confirmed in due course.

This is a rare opportunity to take a lead role on one of Australia's most significant and high-profile mining EPCM projects. Reporting into the project leadership team, you will be responsible for establishing, implementing and continuously improving project HSE systems and processes throughout the execution phase. Working closely with project, construction and contractor teams, you will drive a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with Australian WHS legislative requirements while supporting our commitment to delivering projects with zero harm.

About the role

As the HSE Manager, you will:

  • Lead the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of project-specific HSE management systems, plans, standards, procedures and reporting processes.
  • Provide expert advice, coaching and strategic guidance to project and construction teams on all health, safety and environmental matters.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian WHS legislation, client requirements and Ausenco corporate standards across all phases of project execution.
  • Establish and maintain effective contractor management processes, including the review and approval of contractor HSE plans, risk assessments and safe work procedures.
  • Lead project hazard identification, risk assessment and critical control verification activities across all disciplines.
  • Manage incident reporting, investigation and corrective action processes, ensuring lessons learned are effectively communicated and embedded.
  • Develop and oversee project audit, inspection and assurance programs aligned with Ausenco's HSE Management System.
  • Lead HSE reporting requirements for project leadership, corporate stakeholders and the client.
  • Identify HSE training and competency requirements across project teams and contractor workforces.
  • Build, mentor and lead the project HSE team to achieve project objectives and foster a proactive safety culture.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response planning activities.
  • Partner with project leadership to achieve project goals while promoting Ausenco's values, culture and commitment to safety excellence.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Degree, Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
  • Extensive HSE leadership experience within major mining, infrastructure or resources projects.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and implementing HSE management systems on large-scale project environments.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of Australian WHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience working within an EPCM, principal contractor or major project execution environment.
  • Demonstrated capability influencing senior stakeholders, contractors and project teams to deliver positive HSE outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of contractor management, risk management and assurance processes.
  • Experience leading incident investigations, audits, inspections and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, engagement and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capability.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive and visible leadership style with a genuine commitment to creating a zero-harm culture.
