Our team in Canada is growing! We are currently recruiting for a Lead Structural Engineer to join our Minerals and Metals Business line in the Vancouver office.
About the Role
- Oversee cost effective structural engineering designs from studies to detail design, tender and construction in accordance with Canadian Codes and Standards.
- Perform analysis and design of concrete foundations and steel structures for mining and industrial projects.
- Prepare specifications, design criteria, scope of work and material take-off.
- Acting as the discipline lead or point of contact on a project, supervising the work of other engineers and designers on the project team.
- Ensure that objectives of cost, quality and time are met.
- Lead the project team in a multi-disciplinary environment, reporting on progress of his team and deliverables, and provide staffing plans and estimated remaining effort to complete the work.
- Work directly with drafting staff in order to produce detailed drawing packages.
- Liaise with client representatives and vendors directly.
- Perform site visits and inspect existing structures. Perform evaluation and analysis of existing structures for modifications and additions and propose reinforcement solutions.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural engineering from a recognized University. (Master’s degree would be considered an asset).
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) within the Province of BC.
- 12+ years experience in structural design of mineral processing plants, material handling, and industrial projects (from study phase to detailed design).
- Thorough understanding of the design of various building structures and systems for mining projects.
- Proficiency in design of steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, and various types of heavy concrete foundations for buildings and equipment. (Hands on experience in designing mill foundations would be an asset).
- An in-depth knowledge and demonstrated experience in design of mining facilities, with a proven ability to conceptualize project layouts, and optimize designs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Familiarity with structural dynamics, earthquake engineering and FEA modelling, is considered a strong asset.
- Proficiency in application of Canadian Codes and Standards, including applicable building codes applicable in design of industrial buildings and site accommodations. (Proficiency US and International Codes and Standards is an asset)

Proficiency in structural engineering design software using SAP2000 and experience working with NavisWorks and SmartPlant would be considered an asset.
- Experienced in dealing with clients, vendors and contractors directly.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and as part of a multidisciplinary group.

Salary range: $160,000-$185,000 annually.
Expected Salary: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as qualifications, relevant years of experience, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
