Combining our deep technical expertise with a 30-year track record, we deliver innovative, value-add consulting studies, project delivery, asset operations and maintenance solutions to the mining & metals, oil & gas, and industrial sectors.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support the delivery of mining and minerals projects by bridging the gap between multidisciplinary engineering teams and site construction execution. This office-based role is responsible for coordinating engineering activities, managing technical interfaces, resolving construction-related engineering issues, and ensuring that engineering deliverables are practical, coordinated, and suitable for field implementation.

Working closely with the Project Manager, Engineering Manager, discipline leads, Construction Manager, and site personnel, the Senior Project Engineer will play a key role in maintaining alignment between engineering design and construction requirements. The successful candidate will bring strong technical knowledge, proven project execution experience, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve issues that may affect project safety, quality, cost, and schedule.

About the role

  • Coordinate and oversee multidisciplinary engineering activities across civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and process disciplines.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are aligned with project scope, design criteria, specifications, applicable codes, and construction requirements.
  • Monitor engineering progress, identify critical interfaces, and proactively address technical issues that could affect procurement, construction sequencing, or project milestones.
  • Facilitate technical reviews, design coordination meetings, constructability reviews, and interdisciplinary interface workshops.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, calculations, and design packages to identify inconsistencies, gaps, and potential execution risks.
  • Coordinate design changes and ensure their impacts on project scope, cost, schedule, procurement, and construction are appropriately assessed.
  • Work with discipline leads to prioritize engineering deliverables based on construction priorities and site requirements.
  • Serve as a key technical liaison between office-based engineering teams and site construction personnel.
  • Lead the coordination and resolution of construction-related engineering queries, Requests for Information (RFIs), technical clarifications, and design discrepancies.
  • Ensure timely responses to site queries and coordinate the involvement of relevant engineering disciplines to minimize construction delays.
  • Review proposed field changes, design deviations, and alternative construction solutions in collaboration with discipline engineers and appropriate technical authorities.
  • Provide engineering guidance to resolve constructability challenges, unforeseen site conditions, and conflicts between design documents and actual field conditions.
  • Coordinate engineering support for construction planning, installation sequencing, temporary works interfaces, and construction methodology reviews, as applicable.
  • Participate in site coordination meetings, construction progress reviews, and technical workshops as required.
  • Ensure approved field changes are properly documented, communicated to affected stakeholders, and incorporated into engineering deliverables and as-built documentation.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, Engineering Manager, Construction Manager, procurement team, and discipline leads to support the successful execution of EPCM/EPC projects.
  • Manage engineering and construction interfaces to ensure design deliverables are issued in accordance with construction priorities and project schedules.
  • Identify technical risks, engineering constraints, and potential scope gaps, recommending mitigation strategies and corrective actions.
  • Track engineering deliverables, outstanding technical issues, RFIs, design changes, and action items to ensure timely closure.
  • Assess the potential impacts of engineering changes and technical issues on project costs, schedules, procurement activities, and construction productivity.
  • Support project planning, progress reporting, forecasting, and the development of recovery plans where engineering or construction interfaces threaten key milestones.
  • Coordinate with procurement and vendors to resolve technical queries, review vendor documentation, and address equipment or material-related engineering issues.
  • Support the preparation of technical scopes of work, work packages, and engineering documentation required for construction execution.
  • Contribute to project closeout, commissioning readiness, system turnover, and final documentation activities.
  • Ensure engineering solutions are developed and implemented in accordance with applicable Canadian codes and standards, project specifications, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.
  • Promote safe-by-design principles and ensure construction risks are considered during engineering reviews and design changes.
  • Support the identification, investigation, and resolution of engineering-related non-conformances and quality issues.
  • Ensure appropriate technical reviews, approvals, and change management processes are followed.
  • Work collaboratively with quality, health and safety, commissioning, and construction teams to address technical and execution risks.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering coordination, constructability, document control, and office-to-site communication.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction in resolving complex engineering and construction interface issues.
  • Facilitate collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and promote accountability for engineering deliverables and technical responses.
  • Mentor and support Project Engineers and other team members, sharing knowledge and promoting sound engineering practices.
  • Communicate technical matters clearly to engineering, construction, project management, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Build effective working relationships with site personnel and maintain a practical, solutions-oriented approach to project challenges.
