Ausenco is a globally recognised leader in engineering, consulting, and project delivery services for the minerals, metals, and industrial sectors. Operating from 21 offices across 9 countries and delivering projects in over 80 locations worldwide, we are committed to redefining possibilities in complex projects and challenging environments.

As a result of a growing pipeline of awarded work across diverse commodities in critical minerals and metals across WA and Africa, we’re seeking a dedicated talented QA/QC Checker to join our growing team in our Perth CBD office.

About the role

  • Be a key contributor to the delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering designs and feasibility studies
  • Manage and provide support to the project team to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, standards, and procedures.
  • Lead the checking, validation and certification of vendor 3D models and associated 2D drawings, ensuring they meet specification, interface and constructability requirements.
  • Oversee the 30% model review phase (and other key milestone reviews) in collaboration with design & engineering leads to drive quality and delivery.
  • Manage and maintain the model tracking register, monitoring discipline progress, ensuring alignment and reducing rework risk.
  • Support and enhance our QA/QC procedures and documentation in line with our quality management system for Design Office requirements.
  • Identify recurring design errors or inefficiencies and document and standardize improvements so they benefit future projects and reduce long-term business risk.
  • Mentor and assist junior design team members in embedding best-practice QA/QC processes, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives — capturing lessons, refining checklists and strengthening our design office capability.
  • Work effectively in a hybrid/remote environment, coordinating with remote/onsite teams, ensuring all review output is tracked, documented and distributed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate & setup Navisworks Review models in the ACC Docs environment across all projects
  • Manage all comments within ACC docs for all model reviews and continuous design developments & improvements for all disciplines on various projects.
  • Checking of 2D drawings to Ausenco standards for Process, Mechanical, Piping, Structural & Concrete and Civil design for various projects.

About you

  • Detailed knowledge of materials handling & mineral processing.
  • Ability to lead, mentor and develop a team of design professionals and develop a group for the checking activities within projects.
  • Significant experience in 3D modelling and visualisation software e.g. Navisworks.
  • Prior experience with Smart Plant 3D highly desirable
  • Sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards industry regulations and HSE practices
  • Experience in creating design standards & procedures where required would be highly desirable
  • Proficient in the layout of process plant equipment
  • Ability to review and provide constructive feedback on vendor drawings and interdisciplinary design data
  • Advanced knowledge and practical application of design theories, principles and practices
  • Has strong hands-on experience in mechanical/plant layout/piping design (or related engineering design disciplines) with a proven ability to spot issues others may miss.
  • Understands or has worked within an ISO 9001 (or equivalent) Quality Management System environment — you appreciate the importance of documented information, risk-based thinking and continual improvement.
  • Are comfortable working in a fast-paced project execution phase, delivering against tight milestone deadlines and proactively coordinating with discipline leads, vendors and QA teams.
  • Have excellent communication skills: able to ask the right questions, provide meaningful feedback, suggest design improvements, challenge assumptions and articulate risk and cost implications to stakeholders.
  • Are self-motivated, highly organised and able to work autonomously (including from home/remotely) while maintaining visibility of your deliverables and outputs.
  • Preferably have experience mentoring or training less experienced designers, and can help shape and refine procedures so the office’s QA/QC capability improves over time.
  • Are aligned with a quality-first mindset: someone who understands that good QA/QC isn’t just a box-tick, but a business enabler that saves cost, reduces risk and improves reputation.
  • Advanced diploma or equivalent in Engineering – desirable.
  • Teamwork – Breaks down barriers between teams, involves others outside the team and supports wider business initiatives.
