  • Burlington, Ontario, Canada
  • Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Ausenco is a fast-growing company with big ideas. We redefine what’s possible in some of the world’s most complex projects and toughest environments. Delivering innovative, value-add consulting, project delivery, asset operations and maintenance solutions is what we do. From 22 offices in 10 countries, with projects in over 80 locations worldwide, we create sustainable outcomes for our people, clients, and communities.

We’re seeking a Senior Cost Controller to support our Eastern Canadian Mining & Metals team.

As a Senior Cost Controller, you will support a portfolio of mining and minerals studies, including Preliminary Economic Assessments (PEAs), Pre-Feasibility Studies (PFSs), Feasibility Studies (FSs),  Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Execution projects.

Working closely with Study Managers, Project Managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will play an important role in ensuring effective cost management, accurate forecasting, and successful study delivery.

This opportunity is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys a hands-on role, is comfortable managing multiple smaller assignments, and brings strong analytical and problem-solving skills to a dynamic consulting environment.

This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to spend some time working from one of our GTA offices (Toronto and/or Burlington) or the Calgary office.

 About the role

  • Establish and maintain project cost control systems, budgets, and reporting structures using Ausenco's standard tools and procedures, ensuring alignment with project scope, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and study deliverables.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain project budgets, commitments, actual costs, and forecasts across a portfolio of engineering studies and smaller projects.
  • Work closely with Study Managers, Project Managers, and discipline leads to monitor project performance, identify cost risks, and support informed decision-making.
  • Apply strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify cost trends, challenge assumptions, investigate variances, and recommend practical solutions to keep studies on budget.
  • Prepare regular cost reports, forecasts, cash flow projections, and variance analyses, providing clear and meaningful insights into project financial performance.
  • Support project resource planning and forecasting, working with project teams to ensure staffing plans and budgets are aligned with study requirements and schedules.
  • Monitor project progress and earned value, where appropriate, to assess performance against approved budgets and forecasts.
  • Track and manage scope changes, trends, and budget adjustments, ensuring potential cost impacts are identified, evaluated, and communicated in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate cost control records, including commitments, actual expenditures, invoicing, and cost allocations, ensuring reliable financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with the broader Project Controls team to support consistent cost control practices, reporting, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage cost control activities across multiple studies and smaller projects, balancing competing priorities and adapting to changing project requirements.

About You

  • Degree or diploma in engineering, project management, business administration, finance, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in project cost control, project controls, or a related discipline, ideally within an engineering consulting or project delivery environment.
  • Experience supporting mining and minerals projects, particularly engineering studies such as PEAs, PFSs, FSs,  smaller FEED projects or execution , is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of project cost management, budgeting, forecasting, change management, and progress measurement.
  • A solid understanding of engineering project execution and delivery, with the ability to apply sound cost control principles to smaller studies and early-stage project development.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, challenge assumptions, identify potential issues, and recommend practical solutions.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach, with a genuine interest in supporting project teams and contributing to successful study delivery.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with project cost control and reporting systems. Experience with Oracle and EcoSys would be an asset.
  • Experience working in an EPC or EPCM environment is an asset, but not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Study Managers, Project Managers, engineering teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary consulting environment where flexibility, initiative, and sound judgment are valued.
