Senior Planner/Scheduler

Ausenco is a fast-growing company with big ideas. We redefine what’s possible in some of the world’s most complex projects and toughest environments. Delivering innovative, value-add consulting, project delivery, asset operations and maintenance solutions is what we do. From 22 offices in 10 countries, with projects in over 80 locations worldwide, we create sustainable outcomes for our people, clients, and communities.

We’re seeking a Senior Planner/Scheduler to support our Eastern Canadian Mining & Metals team.

This role is well suited to a Planner/ Scheduler who enjoys the variety and pace of engineering studies and early-stage project development. Rather than focusing on large-scale construction execution, you'll work across a portfolio of mining and minerals studies, applying your project delivery knowledge, critical thinking, and planning expertise to help teams develop realistic schedules, anticipate challenges, and deliver successful outcomes.

This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to spend some time working from one of our GTA offices (Toronto and/or Burlington) or the Calgary office.

 About the role

  • Develop and maintain project schedules for mining and minerals studies, including Preliminary Economic Assessments (PEAs), Pre-Feasibility Studies (PFSs), and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and execution projects.
  • Prepare and maintain the project Basis of Schedule, ensuring schedules are aligned with study objectives, scope, deliverables, and key milestones.
  • Work closely with Study Managers, Project Managers, and engineering discipline leads to develop realistic, achievable schedules that support successful study execution.
  • Apply sound project planning principles and critical thinking to identify scheduling risks, gaps, dependencies, and opportunities to improve study delivery.
  • Establish, monitor, and regularly assess the critical path, proactively identifying potential delays and recommending practical solutions to keep studies on track.
  • Facilitate Interactive Planning Sessions (IPS) with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and other stakeholders to align priorities, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Develop and maintain resource-loaded schedules where appropriate, supporting effective resource planning across multiple studies.
  • Ensure schedules are appropriately structured and aligned with the project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to support progress tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Incorporate scope changes, emerging priorities, and schedule adjustments while assessing their impact on overall study timelines.
  • Prepare regular schedule updates, progress reports, and forecasts, highlighting key risks, variances, and recommended mitigation strategies.
  • Support multiple studies of varying sizes and complexities, balancing competing priorities in a dynamic consulting environment.

About You

  • 12+  years of experience in project planning, scheduling, or project controls, ideally within an engineering consulting or project delivery environment.
  • Experience supporting mining and minerals projects, with exposure to engineering studies such as PEAs, PFSs, Feasibility Studies (FSs), FEED or EPC/EPCM projects considered a strong asset.
  • A solid understanding of project execution and delivery, with the ability to apply that knowledge effectively to smaller engineering studies and early-stage project development.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to look beyond the schedule, challenge assumptions, identify potential issues, and recommend practical solutions.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to planning and scheduling, with a genuine interest in helping project teams deliver high-quality studies on time.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Study Managers, Project Managers, engineering teams, and clients.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary consulting environment where flexibility, initiative, and sound judgment are valued.
