Our team in Canada is growing, we are currently recruiting for a Design Assistant to join our Industrial & Infrastructure Business line in the Burnaby/Vancouver office (hybrid).

 

About the Role

 

  • Support the development of technical documentation and design packages in accordance with project requirements.
  • Assist with site visits and field data collection as required.
  • Ensure designs comply with BC Hydro standards, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Review and incorporate field data, survey results, and measurements into design layouts.
  • Collaborate with field technicians and engineers to ensure accuracy and feasibility of designs.
  • Prepare work packages, including design layouts, material lists, and related project documentation.
  • Maintain organized records of design files, revisions, and approvals.
  • Work closely with senior designers, engineers, and project managers to deliver high-quality designs on schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to resolve design challenges and ensure alignment on project objectives.
  • Perform quality checks on design work to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving discrepancies or issues in project designs.
  • Participate in training sessions and mentorship opportunities to build technical skills and understanding of BC Hydro’s design processes.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies in utility and electrical distribution design.

 

About You

 

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Technology, Civil Technology, Drafting, or a related field.
  • 0–2 years of experience in electrical distribution design or a related discipline.
  • Exposure to BC Hydro standards and tools (e.g., DAD, Passport) is an asset but not required.
  • Basic understanding of electrical distribution systems and components.
  • Familiarity with Spida-Calc for pole loading and structural analysis is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate design work.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Familiarity with BC Hydro’s design processes, standards, and tools (preferred).
  • Previous experience or internships in utility design or drafting (preferred).

Salary range: $50,000 - $60,000
