Our team in the US is growing. We are currently recruiting for a Lead Piping Engineer to join our Minerals & Metals Business line in the Tucson or Denver office, reporting to our Lead Mechanical Engineer. You will play a key role in critical project phases, from Study Phase Engineering and Detailed Engineering and Construction and will bring your experience (and gain experience) across a variety of mining commodities with a large variety of clients.   

This is a full-time position with possible work from home options as per our global telework policy and may require at least three (3) days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned to the Tucson office or Denver office.  Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with function or project leadership. 

About the Role

  • Deliver piping engineering design that aligns with project requirements and Ausenco’s engineering standards.
  • Perform and verify hydraulic calculations for both pumped and gravity flow systems.
  • Guide designers on best practices for piping layout and participate in multidiscipline layout reviews.
  • Develop piping and valve material standards and engineering specifications.
  • Input, review, and incorporate vendor data to produce IFC level P&IDs.
  • Create purchasing documents, including datasheets, scopes of work, MTOs, and procurement lists for bulk pipe, fittings, and valves.
  • Facilitate the purchase of materials by evaluating multiple tenderers and assisting procurement.
  • Communicate with engineers from other disciplines to ensure designs meet project budgets and schedules.
  • Assist with project planning and recommend improvements to the design process.
  • Provide technical assistance to designers and review project design drawings in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and relevant client engineering standards.
  • Prepare and approve design calculations and manage piping engineering work packages to meet budgets and schedules.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers and designers, providing guidance on standards and quality requirements.
  • Participate in HAZOP reviews and ensure resolution of piping issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Promote ethical practices and adhere to Ausenco North America’s corporate safety culture.

 

About You

 

  • Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years’ work experience in the U.S. and a P.E. in the state of Arizona or Colorado
  • 15+ years’ piping design experience in a relevant industry, e.g. mining, mineral processing, with at least 5 years in copper concentrator design.
  • Knowledge of slurry handling and rubber lined pipe design
  • Ability to resolve most technical issues in an efficient manner with some guidance.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Extensive experience with ASME B31.3 and associated standards
  • Experience with SmartPlant is considered an advantage

 

Preferred:

 

  • Experience working on large projects in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Extensive knowledge of 3D data centric design systems
  • Good knowledge of EPC/EPCM engineering management systems
  • Strong ability to delegate tasks and promote the effective performance of team members.
  • Experience in mentoring piping engineers and piping designers.
  • Extensive experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of EPC/EPCM projects as a Piping Engineer.
  • Strong client focus and ability to review Client piping specifications for compliance to code.
  • Good leadership skills.
